Haley Joel Osment and Gus Van Sant Need Alcohol Classes

I have said it time and again that celebrities should not be role models. The frequency with which they are arrested for driving under the influence are a good reason why people should not seek to emulate them completely.

Haley Joel Osment

Too bad he didn’t have the good sense to not drink and drive. This child-actor, star of the famed movie with Bruce Willis called “The Sixth Sense,” was arrested for DUI.

At around 1 A.M. on July 20th this Sixth Sense actor, at the age of 18, may have almost been a dead "people" for law enforcement to see. However, instead, after plowing through a mail box and flipping over, law officials were able to see he was driving with a .05 percent blood alcohol content, which is highly illegal under the age of 21. After adding on the marijuana charges for possession Haley didn't hesitate to make a plea deal getting himself sentenced to three year’s probation, 60 hours of alcohol rehab, six months of AA meetings and a fine of $1500.

Gus Van Sant

One such celebrity, who may even fly under the radar given that he is behind the camera, is famed Hollywood director Gus Van Sant. The famed movie director of Good Will Hunting was arrested in Oregon in 2006 for driving with twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system. His arrest was made after being pulled over for not using his headlights. He pleaded no contest and entered into an alcohol diversion program to avoid further penalties.

Once again, be your own person. Celebrities are not role models and do not drink and drive.
